Vice President of Applied AI
The Vice President of Applied AI is a senior executive role with full responsibility for establishing, leading, and operating the company's Applied AI consultancy business as a core revenue-generating function. The role has been created to meet growing demand for applied artificial intelligence and AI-led secure software consultancy services. The Vice President of Applied AI is accountable for defining the strategic direction, commercial model, delivery standards, and operational structure of the Applied AI consultancy arm, while also providing senior hands-on technical leadership on complex client engagements. The role holder acts with delegated executive authority for all Applied AI consultancy activities and represents the company in senior-level client, partner, and stakeholder engagements. Salary: £75K+ (based on experience).
Requirements
- Minimum 10 years of hands-on experience in applied AI, machine learning, or related technical fields
- Demonstrated success in building and leading high-performing AI or ML engineering teams
- Strong proficiency in Python and production-grade ML frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or similar
- Solid background in AI system architecture, MLOps pipelines, and deploying models at scale
- Ability to communicate complex technical ideas clearly to both technical teams and business stakeholders
- Track record of defining and delivering AI initiatives that align with broader business goals
- Practical experience across multiple AI domains such as NLP, LLMs, computer vision, or predictive analytics
- Familiarity with AI governance, compliance, and responsible AI practices
Nice to Have
- Postgraduate degree (MSc or PhD) in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related discipline
- Contributions to open-source AI projects or published work in the field
- Prior experience working within cybersecurity, fintech, or similarly regulated industries
- Relevant cloud certifications from AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure
- Background in early-stage or high-growth environments where you've built AI capabilities from the ground up
- Understanding of secure software development lifecycles and security-first engineering principles
Responsibilities
Determine and direct the overall strategy for the company's Applied AI consultancy services, including service offerings, market positioning, and delivery approach
Analyse market, technical, regulatory, and commercial data to make strategic decisions affecting the growth and viability of the Applied AI business arm
Establish and approve applied AI policies, methodologies, and operating standards for consultancy delivery
Set pricing models, delivery structures, and commercial terms for applied AI consultancy engagements
Prepare, approve, and manage budgets, forecasts, and investment plans for the Applied AI consultancy function
Authorise expenditure, resource commitments, and third-party engagements required to deliver consultancy services
Act as the final technical decision-maker for applied AI consultancy engagements, including architecture, model selection, risk acceptance, and solution design
Provide hands-on technical leadership on complex or high-risk client projects where senior expertise is required
Resolve escalated technical, security, or delivery issues affecting client outcomes or commercial performance
Decide on the structure, scale, and skill mix of the Applied AI consultancy team
Approve recruitment, role definitions, performance expectations, and professional development plans for applied AI consultants
Lead, manage, and assess senior technical staff to ensure delivery quality and long-term capability development
Establish and enforce governance frameworks for applied AI and information security consultancy activities
Determine acceptable risk thresholds for AI deployment and security practices within client engagements
Ensure compliance with relevant legal, regulatory, and contractual requirements affecting applied AI consultancy work
Plan and control the allocation of personnel, tools, and infrastructure across consultancy engagements
Prioritise delivery commitments and resolve conflicts between commercial demand and delivery capacity
Implement reporting, auditing, and performance monitoring systems for the Applied AI consultancy function
Act as the company's senior representative for applied AI consultancy in client negotiations, technical steering committees, and strategic discussions
Approve consultancy proposals, statements of work, and delivery commitments
Direct the preparation and dissemination of reports, recommendations, and advisory outputs for clients and partners
